NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday lauded the collective efforts of individuals, communities and organisations who came together to practise yoga across the world to mark the 10th International Day of Yoga.
“International Yoga Day was observed across the world thanks to the joint efforts of individuals, communities and organisations who practice yoga. It is evident that yoga has become a unifying force that brings people together across cultures and backgrounds. It is good to see young people taking part in yoga sessions with enthusiasm and dedication,” the PM said in his X post. He further added, “I would like to thank all those who are working hard to popularise yoga. These efforts will go a long way in promoting unity and harmony. I am also happy to see an increasing number of yoga instructors who are inspiring others to take up yoga with their expertise and passion. May yoga continue to bring the world together in the future,” he added.
Prime Minister Modi has been a key figure in promoting yoga globally. After his proposal to the United Nations General Assembly in September 2014, it unanimously resolved on December 11, 2014 to observe June 21 of every year as International Day of Yoga.
This time, he took part in a celebration function held in Srinagar.
Also present were Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha and Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Pratap Rao Jadhav. Home Minister Amit Shah performed yoga at a public garden in Ahmedabad, while Health Minister JP Nadda performed yoga at the Yamuna Sports Complex in Delhi.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh celebrated the day by performing various asanas and breathing exercises with soldiers of I Corps in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.
