BENGALURU: The city celebrated International Day of Yoga with fervor on Friday as many organisations organised public yoga sessions to promote the practice. Akshar Yoga Kendra, for example, made history by setting five new Guinness World Records.
Thousands of yoga practitioners and enthusiasts from various disciplines performed seven different yoga asanas including Naukasana (Boat Pose), Kaundinyasana (Sage Kaundinya Pose), Chakrasana (Wheel Pose), Natrajasana (Lord Shiva Pose) and Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) at the event held at Akshar Yoga Kendra, Bengaluru, setting a world record.
This record-breaking feat was attended by over 3,000 participants from the Indian Army, NCC, Air Force, Karnataka Police, differently-abled people, children from orphanages, business and corporate circles.
In yet another programme organised by Sadhguru Sannidhi in Bangalore, around 1,000 NCC cadets from five battalions of Karnataka from 20 colleges in Chikkaballapura, 200 soldiers from the Madras Engineers (MEG) of the Indian Army and 120 soldiers and two officers from the Subsidiary Training Centre (STC) of the Border Security Force (BSF) participated in a yoga session led by Isha Hatha Yoga instructors. Speaking at the event, Air Commodore SB Arunkumar urged the nation to embrace yoga as a lifestyle choice.
“Yoga is not just a physical exercise but a holistic practice that rejuvenates the body and mind. Yoga reminds us that we are all connected across the world. Through yoga, we can transcend barriers and come together as one global family,” he said.
Organisations such as the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the Indian Air Force (IAF) also took part in the day’s celebrations. According to a statement from the Indian Air Force in Bangalore, over 800 IAF personnel and their families from Jalahalli Air Station, over 1,900 IAF personnel and their trainees from Agniveruvayu Air Station, along with foreign trainees from 14 countries, enthusiastically participated in the celebrations.
