Why a strong core is more important than six-pack abs

The 28-year-old, who has a “dad-type” personality, was named MVP in recognition of his efforts to pitch correctly and give his all to help the Kansas City Chiefs win their second Super Bowl in two years. His name is Patrick Mahomes, and he helped the team win three Super Bowls. – Super Bowl Winner, MVP, and Star of the Netflix Series quarterback. Mahomes’ size and figure came under fire after he posted an image of himself shirtless at a postgame celebration in the dressing room shortly after his team qualified for the biggest night in American sports. was bathed in He was called fat and fat, and he was also despised for having a beer gut.

The online world is so toxic and mean that even being a serial champion or one of the world’s best athletes is not immune to completely unwarranted body shaming. But Mahomes was smarter than to lash out at these faceless, nameless critics, and his spirited response was: If you feel it, there may be skin there, but underneath that is a six pack. All you have to do is get really close and squint a little. I think you’ll see it. ”

The relationship he showed between true core strength and athletic performance is instructive. This is the year of the Olympics, and we’re going to see a lot of top athletes who are fit and fast, but don’t flaunt six-packs or flat stomachs. These include a weightlifter who effortlessly moves 200kg above his head and a boxer who knocks out his opponent. These are wrestlers, shot putters, hammer throwers, and other gutsy athletes who can be out with one or two punches. Neither Mahomes nor the Olympians are physically unfit or have weak cores. The fact that they are playing at the highest level is a testament to their fitness and strength. As Mahomes says, their six packs are underneath layers of fat and skin.

“The elusive six-pack is a muscle located on the surface of the lower chest. Some people have eight-packs, and there are unusual cases of 10-packs of muscle biscuits in the rectus abdominis.” It is visible because the fat levels are low,” says AK Abhinav, a Bangalore-based coach and founder of Namma CrossFit. No matter how healthy you are, most of the time you won’t see a six pack. Fat accumulates in the trunk and abdomen.

“Our bodies usually store fat in our core first, but when we stop physical activity, we tend to store fat closer to our extremities, around our palms, feet, and face,” Abhinav says. added. Fat accumulates first around the limbs and lastly in the stomach area.

If you can’t see your abs, does that mean you’re lacking? Far from it. So instead of getting hung up on unnecessary crunches in the pursuit of beautiful abs, focus on strengthening your core. You will notice that you are not only happier, but also healthier and able to perform daily tasks and recreational sports much better and more efficiently.

Strengthening your core and all the muscles that surround and support your spine will also make your legs and the rest of your body stronger. Core strength comes from a combination of isometric holds, strength training, and aerobic exercise, contrary to the common belief that planks alone are effective. “There are a lot of people doing planks for five minutes. Even if you do it for five years, you won’t get a strong core. Just like any fitness routine, try to mix it up,” says Abhinav.

To build a strong core, you should focus on stimulating your skeletal muscles by doing weightlifting, calisthenics, calisthenics, swimming, and sprints in parallel with isometric holds. Abhinav advises starting with lifting low to moderate loads and focusing on honing your technique before progressing to heavier loads and more complex movements like clean and jerks.

Some of the best exercises to strengthen your core include isometric holds such as the plank, side plank, Superman hold, Copenhagen plank, glute bridge, and advanced isometric holds such as the L sit and L hang. Instead of wasting time doing crunches, incorporate one-arm suitcase deadlifts, hanging leg raises, and one-arm planks into your training program. All of these activate your abdominal muscles, stabilize your body, and strengthen your core strength.

A strong core requires a variety of exercises, from weightlifting to cardio to isometric holds, so with a few tweaks to your food and nutrition, you might be able to get visible abs. However, for best results, focus on your core, not your abs. When it comes to getting the perfect social media photo, using filters is easier than losing sleep.
