As a pediatric urologist and health administrator, he leads standards and strategic initiatives in pediatric care.
West Orange, New Jersey, July 8, 2024 — RWJBarnabas Health, the largest and most comprehensive academic health system in New Jersey, has appointed Dr. Fernando (Feld) Ferrer, MD, FACS, FAAP, as pediatrician-in-chief for RWJBarnabas Health. The appointment is effective immediately. In his new role, Dr. Ferrer will serve as pediatrician-in-chief for the RWJBarnabas Health system.
Dr. Ferrer will work with Bill Faberzani, senior vice president of Children’s Health, and with medical and administrative leaders from the health system, its affiliates and Rutgers Health to develop standards and models of pediatric care that will encompass all Children’s Health providers, services and facilities.
He will also provide clinical leadership to effectively implement the child health strategic plan.

Dr. Feller most recently served as Senior Vice President of Pediatric Services for the Mount Sinai Health System in New York and Chief Operating Officer of Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital, where he led the restructuring and consolidation of Mount Sinai’s pediatric services. He also served as Professor of Urology and Pediatrics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. Feller received his Bachelor of Science from Seton Hall University and his Doctor of Medicine from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in urologic surgery at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and his pediatric urology and research fellowship at the Brady Urological Institute at Johns Hopkins University.
Dr. Feller’s National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded research has focused on the cellular mechanisms of childhood cancer and kidney injury. Dr. Feller has published numerous articles in prestigious medical journals and books, and has been a frequent lecturer and visiting professor. Dr. Feller previously served as a diving surgeon in the U.S. Navy, serving in Operation Desert Storm.
