NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – During Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, the Norfolk Community Services Board is partnering with Project ORF to bring the community together.
Thursday, July 11th, Surviving through mental health It will be an opportunity for connection, healing and support and will take place at the historic Attucks Theatre, 1010 Church St., from 5 to 9 p.m.
“The event focuses on how mental health issues manifest differently in youth, minority and underserved communities, and how collaboration can make a positive impact,” the City of Norfolk said in a press release.
The event says it will foster dialogue about how mental health manifests in our community, from community members to professionals.
What can you expect?
A panel discussion moderated by WAVY’s Kiana Patterson will be a highlight of the event, featuring mental health experts, activists and survivors.

- Dr. Crystal Vaughn of Cornerstone Therapeutic Services
- Kamron Blue, LCSW, CHKD’s Safer Futures program
- Kim Ambrose – Educator and Mental Health Student Intervention Specialist
- Dr. Christy Norwood, clinical psychologist at Hampton University
- Dr. Tonya Shell of Norfolk State University
Community partners, resources and services will come together on-site to learn more about mental health, and there will be fun and engaging activities, including food vendors, refreshments, raffles, door prizes and giveaways.
