The American Heart Association’s signature women’s movement raises awareness of women’s greatest health threats while serving as Miss America’s official health thought leader.
DALLAS, November 28, 2023 — Cardiovascular disease (CVD) claims more lives than any type of cancer, yet many women, especially young women, remain unaware.[1] Through the Go Red for Women® movement, the American Heart Association is committed to making healthier lives possible for everyone. It has a lasting impact on your well-being.
The Miss America Scholarship Foundation’s new support for Go Red for Women will focus on three pillars: One is to promote awareness of CVD, which is the leading cause of death for women. Educate and empower Miss America participants at the local, state, and national levels. And we are raising vital funds to support the Go Red for Women movement, which advocates for equitable research and treatment for women.
Almost 45% of women over the age of 20 have some form of CVD, and as women grow and change, so does their risk of cardiovascular disease. But younger women, such as Gen Z and Millennials, are less likely to be aware of their biggest health threats, such as knowing the warning signs of a heart attack or stroke.[2] That’s why it’s important for all women to take care of their heart health and encourage others to do the same.
“By aligning ourselves with a common goal of empowering and investing in women’s lives, we improve the health of our communities and empower women to be the best they can be,” said Robin Fleming, CEO of Miss America. I can encourage them to be themselves.”
Founded in 2004, Go Red for Women works toward a shared vision of saving and improving women’s lives by advancing equitable research and care, advocating for inclusive health policies, and raising awareness. , collaborates with organizations and individuals. Today, the Go Red for Women movement serves as a trusted and relevant source of reliable, unbiased health solutions for women of all ages, at all stages, and in all seasons of life.
“In the 20 years that Go Red for Women has been working to save and improve the lives of women, one thing we have learned is that women, especially young women, need to know that heart disease does not discriminate. We need to know,” said Nancy Brown, CEO of Go Red for Women. American Heart Association. “Anyone can be a lifesaver,” she continued. She said: “You need to know the signs and symptoms and have the confidence to speak up. The life you save could be your own.”
