BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – An event aiming to break down barriers in health care is being hosted by Southern University Law Center and the Southern University Increasing Diversity Clinicians Initiative.
The event, titled “DiverseMed: Breaking Down Barriers in Healthcare,” is scheduled to take place on Friday, June 14, at the Southern University Law Center Building.
Organizers say there will be a day-long discussion on topics that affect minority communities, including maternal mortality and the stigma surrounding seeking health care.
“Through this event, we hope members of minority communities will be able to engage with diverse clinicians and hear them passionately discuss and actively work to combat health disparities,” said Marla Dickerson, vice dean for innovation and strategic partnerships and initiatives at Southern University Law Center. “When they see clinicians who look like them advocating for their health, it will foster trust and inspire hope for a healthier future.”
Speakers include Dr. Uché Blackstock, author and founder of Advancing Health Equity, board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist Dr. Pierre Johnson, board-certified family physician Dr. Rani Whitfield, and Kiara Carnes, certified lactation consultant and co-owner of Maternal Love.
This event is free and open to the public. Those interested in attending should register in advance. To register and for more information, click here.
