Deshaun Watson finished work out before the other three quarterbacks on the fourth day of training camp at The Greenbriar. He had a short practice followed by a rainy Sunday morning off, which was also his first day in pads, but a source later said it was nothing to be concerned about.
The Cleveland Browns have high hopes for next season, especially with the addition of quarterback Deshaun Watson. This will be the first time the Browns have made the playoffs in four years. Things seemed to be going well early in the season, but injuries eventually ended their playoff hopes.
Why Deshaun Watson left practice early
Deshaun Watson finished practice earlier than the other three quarterbacks on the fourth day of training camp, but Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot doesn’t think that’s a reason to be concerned.
Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reported that Watson finished practice before the team’s other three point guards. When camp began, Watson pitched three straight days and looked to be back in form.
“The quarterbacks gathered in the end zone for a drill that began with a series of dropbacks, followed by offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey throwing a shotgun snap into the end zone and a pass across the field and through the net at the 25-yard line,” Cabot said. “When Watson, who had surgery in November to repair a fractured right shoulder, took his first shot, the ball bounced in front of the net, which was unexpected for him given how well and quickly he’s been coming out since organized team workouts.”
Watson took a shotgun snap into the end zone, then made a cross-field throw to the net on the 25-yard line, which bounced in front of the net, he removed his helmet and pads, rotated his arms slightly before finishing for the day.
“This was his final practice of the day. He removed his helmet and pads, rolled his arms a little and headed toward the sideline while the other three quarterbacks, Jameis Winston, Tyler Hunter and Dorian Thompson-Robinson, continued practicing,” Cabot said.
Quarterback Deshaun Watson is one of many players who had to end their 2023 season with a shortened one. He suffered a season-ending fractured shoulder socket, and this winter has been a tough battle for him as he continues to recover.

The Cleveland Browns are still waiting for ROI
With Deshaun Watson entering the third year of a five-year, fully guaranteed contract with an annual salary of $46 million, the Browns are still waiting for a return on their investment.
Watson seems under constant pressure to live up to his contract. The Browns anticipated a suspension when they acquired him, which resulted in him missing 11 games in 2022 and 11 games in 2023 due to injury. Additionally, the Browns are owed $138 million through 2026.
If that doesn’t happen this season, the Browns will be forced to choose between a $92 million Band-Aid or trying again next season. Even if accidents happen now and then, being a member of such a league means taking responsibility for your health and fitness, as well as the investors who are investing in you.
