One of the surprise successes of 2024 is Balatro, a poker-themed roguelike deck-building game created by a single developer named LocalThunk. Gamers raved about the title, making it a hit on Steam and consoles. Now, Balatro is even getting a special physical release.
LocalThunk confirmed the release themselves in a post by X, which also included the news that the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X editions will come with a Joker/Booster Card pack.

The news was originally announced via Giant Bomb, which also revealed an early look at the Switch box.
In GameSpot’s review of Balatro, Alessandro Barbosa wrote, “Balatro checks all the boxes for a roguelike that creates an addictive feedback loop, and the basics are surprisingly easy to pick up, even if you’re not a poker expert,” adding, “It’s a game where time flies by during a single playthrough, and losses never hurt so much that they deter you from the possibility of another win.”
A release date for the physical version of Baratro has yet to be announced.
