The Department of Physical Education and Sports, University of Kashmir (KU), in collaboration with Shree Hanuman Vyayam Prasarak Mandal (HVPM), Amravati, inaugurated the ‘3rd International Yoga and Sports Conference (Global Wellbeing)’ here on Monday.
It brought together academics, yoga practitioners and sports enthusiasts from around the world to promote holistic health and wellness.
Prof Nilofer Khan, Vice Chancellor, University of Kansas, in his message said yoga and sports are not just activities but “essential tools for holistic development”.
“At Kashmir University, we are committed to developing these disciplines to foster a healthier and more balanced global community,” she reiterated.
Vice Chairman Professor Ganesh Shankar, in his keynote address, shared his insights into the transformative power of yoga and sport.
“Yoga and sport transcend cultural boundaries and promote physical, mental and spiritual health across the world,” he asserted.
Professor Khurshid Ahmad Bhat, Dean of the Kansas College Development Council and Dean of Academic Affairs at the University of Kansas, stressed the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, saying, “The integration of diverse disciplines is crucial in deepening the understanding and practice of yoga and sports, and ultimately contributing to promoting global health.”
KU Secretary General Prof Nasir Iqbal emphasised the important role of yoga and sports in improving physical, mental and spiritual health.
“The University is committed to encouraging these disciplines to enhance the well-being of the world,” he reiterated.
Conference Chairman and Director DPES Dr Mandeep Singh in his address said, “The Department of Physical Education and Sports has played a pivotal role in promoting health and wellbeing within the university community through various workshops, seminars and sports competitions.”
The conference, which concludes on Tuesday (today), will feature fascinating sessions and discussions on various aspects of yoga and sports.
Speakers from many countries will share their research findings and practical experiences, facilitating a rich exchange of knowledge.
DPES Gymnasium Coach Sheikh Adil and DPES Assistant Professor Dr Iftikhar Ahmad Wani conducted the opening ceremony while the DPES Women Sports Assistant delivered the formal vote of thanks.
Dr Surjeet Singh, Dr Naseer Ahmad Bhat and Dr Iqbal Kabir coordinated the meeting.
