New Delhi, June 21 (IANS) Regular practice of yoga has many benefits in managing women’s health, including helping in managing stress, anxiety and mood swings more effectively, experts said on the International Day of Yoga (IDY) on Friday.
International Day of Yoga was adopted by the United Nations in 2014 and is celebrated every year on June 21st around the world.
‘Yoga Day’ was proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his United Nations address in 2014.
Experts say yoga promotes physical fitness by improving flexibility, strength and balance, making it essential for overall health.
“Yoga is especially beneficial for women at different stages of life as it also boosts cardiovascular health and supports weight management. Apart from the physical benefits, yoga cultivates mental clarity and emotional stability through mindful breathing and meditation practices,” Dr Jyoti Kapoor, founder and director, Manasthali Wellness, told IANS.
This year’s theme of IDY was “Yoga for Self and Society”, highlighting the important role yoga plays in promoting individual well-being and social harmony.
Experts said new research showed yoga could have major benefits for women with neurological problems.
“Yoga promotes neuroplasticity – the brain’s ability to reorganise itself, aids in recovery from neurological diseases and improves cognitive function. The physical postures and relaxation techniques of yoga reduce chronic pain by improving flexibility, muscle strength and pain perception,” says Dr Rajnish Kumar, senior director and unit head, neurology, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dwarka.
What’s more, experts say that whether you’re looking to ease menstrual discomfort, manage symptoms like polycystic ovarian syndrome or menopause, or simply feel more energetic, a regular yoga practice offers a holistic approach to women’s health that nourishes the body and mind.
