when A few days ago, a new decluttering ad was released featuring Ranveer Singh The advertisement for Bold Care, a sexual wellness brand for men, was initially thought by many to be a parody of daily soaps and comical pre-Valentine’s Day videos. But soon Ranveer announced that he is not only the face of the brand, but also the co-founder of a company that aims to help millions of men tap into this opportunity.
The purposefully shocking advertisement achieved its goal of making Ranveer’s brand instantly recognizable. But what really caught everyone’s attention was the juxtaposition of A-list movie stars in a video shot like a daily soap. So while the brand promises to rekindle the lost passion in India’s bedrooms, the ad itself should serve as a wake-up call to the television industry, which often faces criticism for its disturbing content. When I saw this commercial, I couldn’t help but think of a scene in a Hindi TV show where the scriptwriter was completely serious and inadvertently created a comical scene.
Who can forget Gopi Bahu from the very unpleasant soap ‘Saas Nibhana Saathiya’? Among the many tasteless melodramas on the show (including the now famous “rasode mein kaun thha”), Gopi washes the laptop of her verbally and psychologically abusive husband Ahem. There was an episode. As the audience watched in horror, Gopi scrubbed the laptop with soap and water and hung it on a clothesline to dry with other clothes.
But the technical issues don’t completely resolve the drama surrounding Sindoor’s hairline. There is still no daily soap that has not invested heavily in sindoor and other suhaag ki nishishaniyan (symbols of marriage) stripes. However, just like the unrealistic story of Ranveer’s brother taking a pill and falling on top of his wife Kish, satisfying her even as she falls to the ground, a man who applies soap every day accidentally ends up in the woman’s mouth. Sindoor is applied to the hairline. In the now-defunct show Thapki Pyaar Ki, when the protagonist is standing in front of the mirror after taking a shower, her husband slips and slides in sindoor and his bald arm appears. I’m trying to make sure to apply vermilion to my wife’s forehead. Incidentally, this was the same show where a gorilla falls in love with Thapki and she becomes rival with two human suitors.
When women hang from kites to save their spouses or drive scooters to the moon, it’s the power of marriage in the soaps we use every day. In the show, the protagonist Ishq Ki Dastan – Naagmani goes to space on a scooter, lands on the moon and rescues her husband and child. However, this is not everything. The same program also showed a couple hanging from a kite as they tried to save the husband who had accidentally fallen off the terrace. Unfortunately, I’m not making any of this up.
Thorpe may be regressive when it comes to portraying women, but when it comes to nonsense, Thorpe has a totally equal chance. So a trip to the moon is not just for women. In Yeh Jadu Hai Jin Ka, the protagonist takes the ‘cha and tare tod raunga’ stereotype a few steps too far. When he can’t drag the moon down using a glowing rope to impress his lover, he drives his car to the moon and uses his magic wand to split part of it.
In addition to these terrace jumps and intergalactic acts of love, there are shows that delve deep into the complexities of falling in love with a shape-shifting person and someone whose tongue can fork out at will. Ekta Kapoor’s textbook unpleasant series Naagin slid onto our screens more than a decade ago, bringing with it an evil mongoose, a mean peacock, and a half-human ecosystem.
No discussion about bizarre daily soaps would be complete without mentioning Simar and his family who continue to suffer in the daily soap ‘Sasural Simar Ka’. Ah, what Simar went through to keep a fragile family like Papa together. She gets slapped by her step-grandmother, almost strangles her with her curtains, fights her shape-shifting female snake (yes, there was a snake in this show too), and even Sometimes it turned into a housefly. If only someone had slapped her and ended her painful show sooner.
Sadly, this article has a character limit, but there are countless examples of TV characters pushing the limits of science, logic, and even fantasy to win ratings. As Ranveer’s brand promises to men, daily soaps may last a long time, but unfortunately they offer little satisfaction. Perhaps seeing millions of people instantly recognize the ad as a parody of malicious content will eventually cause TV stations and producers to correct course and set higher standards of creativity for the small screen. You will be encouraged to establish Kyunki Kishu deserves more recognition.
