In 2023, we are suddenly thrust into the mental health system and shocked by the state of the system. As an analytical person, I felt I needed to better understand why this was the case. I started looking into the whole system, how it was funded, who was doing the gatekeeping. Although the United States was ahead of many other countries, it quickly became clear that we had a long way to go in building a mental health system that adequately reflected our constitutional commitment to our people.
Human society is on a journey toward a complete understanding of the brain. Assess exactly how it works, decipher the causes of behavior, and understand how to strengthen natural systems to produce better outcomes for both individuals and society. The pandemic has wreaked havoc not only on adults but also on children. We have a great opportunity and a great obligation to strengthen our commitment to our people through improved mental health care. On March 19th, we can take a step towards that goal.
I wanted to encourage my readers to vote yes on the upcoming McHenry County Commission bipartisan referendum to increase funding for mental health services. This supports prevention and care rather than enduring the costs of ignoring it. This is the next frontier in human society’s development, and it must be funded in a way that reflects America’s commitment to ensuring its people’s right to pursue happiness.
