“Walmart is so big that it has a huge responsibility, but it also has a tremendous opportunity to reach a huge number of people,” Wright said. “What we are designing today may not be what we need next year, so our thought process must not remain stale. We must think innovatively and look to the future.” You have to have a different mindset.”

In a recent interview with EBN, Wright talks about how you know which benefits are most effective, the importance of continuous communication in your team, and how good leadership can help maintain positive momentum. We talked about it.
What is the secret to meeting the needs of so many employees?
We start with the voices of our employees. Because we listened to our employees, we were able to develop, design, and deploy some great products to help them. Equally important is providing customers with the products they want. Making these transactions simple and efficient is a key part of our work. The third stage is compliance. This is because you not only need to provide compliance to your employees, but you also need to make sure that you are delivering it as designed. Compliance is not the fun part that everyone talks about, but it is a very important part of providing benefits.

How do you decide if someone is a good fit for your team?
It comes down to a process of filtering. Do they know the subject matter of the role I will be filling? What leadership skills will they bring? How can they communicate? Do they understand the customers we serve? Do they understand the importance of their employees to the company? Do they have a social mission? In reality, we’re looking at softer skills to understand if they’re a good fit. Some of my team members have been working with me for a very long time, so I think they have great recipes.

How will the ever-evolving need for benefits impact your style of collaboration with your team?
We all work together every day to make sure we have the right environment. It’s not uncommon to have yearly goals, but by the second month it can be off the table and you’ll be working on something else. This is not unusual. Because by listening to our employees and hearing what’s happening in the world and what new technologies are being developed, we can quickly redefine our goals. We are in constant communication, and while we have regular meetings (I do weekly touch bases with each member individually, followed by weekly team meetings), conversations about innovation and new ideas are It can occur at any time.
You and your team are both very busy, how can you make sure no one is overworked?
This happened just the other day. I knew someone on my team was working hard on a project, but I turned to them and said, “I’m worried you’re going to burn out.” I would like you to take some PTO. Please go with your family. ‘And they did, and I liked it because they came back refreshed.
At the beginning of the year, talk about scheduling PTO instead of waiting until the end of the year. I do that with everyone on my team throughout the year. I am a strong believer in taking paid vacation. If you do, you must disconnect. I don’t connect on vacation. I have great team members. They are in charge and know what to do. Being with family and loved ones without working is very important and I emphasize that with my team.
