Orange, California and Brentwood, Tennessee, February 16, 2024 – UCI Health and LifePoint Rehabilitation, a division of LifePoint Health, yesterday held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Irvine, California. UCI Health Rehabilitation Hospital is a joint venture partnership between UCI Health and LifePoint Rehabilitation announced in 2022.

The 68,000 square foot, two-story facility will serve as a 52-bed freestanding hospital. The facility includes a specialized unit for acquired brain injury, a dialysis room, an imaging lab for on-site radiology, a multidisciplinary treatment gymnasium equipped with the latest treatment technology, an outdoor courtyard, and an outdoor courtyard where patients can engage in daily living activities. Additional spaces are designed to help you get back to your home. The facility will have all units structurally designed to meet the needs of patients receiving acute inpatient rehabilitation care for stroke, traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, amputations, and other injuries and disabilities.

Lefteris, President and CEO of UCI Health. “Our collaboration with LifePoint Rehabilitation reflects our unwavering dedication to helping patients achieve their highest recovery potential. The creation of UCI Health Rehabilitation Hospital will help realize this vision.” “This is a critical step toward strengthening our position as a leading provider of advanced rehabilitation services and improving the quality of life for the communities we serve.”

The facility will serve patients treated at UCI Medical Center in Orange as well as patients at UCI Health Irvine, a new 1.2 million square foot medical campus. and the greater Orange County healthcare market. The new campus will include the Joe C. Wen & Family Center for Advanced Care, scheduled to open this spring, and the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and outpatient care building, scheduled to open this summer. With its opening, UCI Health Rehabilitation Hospital will more than triple the inpatient rehabilitation capacity currently available across the health system.

“The new rehabilitation hospital represents a significant advancement in the continuum of care at UCI Health, providing superior rehabilitation care to the region. It includes a Level I trauma center, an inpatient hospital in Orange County and Irvine; patients and those who require support from UCI Health’s Comprehensive Cancer Center, Regional Burn Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center,” said Dr. Jay Han, UCI Health President. Professor of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation and Medical Director of the Rehabilitation Unit. “This new facility strengthens UCI Health’s commitment to providing best-in-class rehabilitation care and being the premier rehabilitation hospital in the region and beyond.”

Lifepoint Rehabilitation will provide additional operational support to the joint venture partnership with its experience in providing an evidence-based framework for rehabilitation care in inpatient-only acute care settings. UCI Health Rehabilitation Hospital is expected to create more than 200 new jobs in the region and serve more than 1,200 patients annually.

Upon completion, UCI Health Rehabilitation Hospital will be jointly operated by UCI Health and LifePoint Rehabilitation. The facility will join LifePoint Rehabilitation’s growing network of more than 40 inpatient rehabilitation facilities across the United States. This hospital is scheduled to open in his year 2025.
