As Women’s History Month comes to a close, Samia Gore, founder of Body Complete Rx, the only Black woman-owned and formulated supplement brand on the market, is leaning into the taboo conversation around women’s health. “I have a therapist, but she hasn’t necessarily helped me get through this season,” Gore told ESSENCE about the challenges he’s faced over the past decade.
But Gore is no stranger to developing businesses that solve her problems. For example, Body Her Complete Rx was a solution to support her weight loss and healthy lifestyle journey. That said, this spring she is developing her new mental health platform, FoundnWell, to help others who feel the same way she does feel heard and seen.
The platform is “an organization created to support the mental health and wellness of minority founders, entrepreneurs, and business owners,” Gore said. And for now, you can find mental health resources on our Instagram page, with our first meetup scheduled for May 2024 in partnership with Soho House.
Apart from her personal struggles with mental health, learning that entrepreneurs are twice as likely to report a lifetime history of depression inspired her to create this new and needed organization in Goa. Ta. After all, she understands firsthand the need for something like this. How to overcome divorce, weight fluctuations, anxiety, etc. “The key is to find the balance that works for you and be mindful of your own needs,” she says.
Aside from habits like meditation, journaling, exercise, and using your favorite products from 54 Thrones, Brown Girl Jane, and Topicals, that means relying on your community. “My safe haven was through relationships with several female founders who were also struggling with bouts of anxiety, stress, and depression,” she says.
In that regard, with Foundnwell, you too can get the community support you need. Be sure to check out our Instagram page for the latest information and events happening near you. Mr Gore said: “FoundnWell has been a really important part of my journey, helping others who look like me have the safe spaces, tools, and resources they need to get through the different seasons of this journey. I hope so.”
