TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Taiwan Railway Corporation began the recruitment process on Sunday (February 18), which included a physical examination, according to CNA.
According to Focus Taiwan, on January 1, the Taiwan Railway Association transitioned from a private company to a state-owned company called “Taiwan Railway Corporation” (Taiwan Railway). The company is conducting an exam for new employees.
The recruitment process includes a physical fitness test, a written test, an interview, and a professional test, which will be conducted in Taipei, Taichung, Kaohsiung, and Hualien. The physical fitness test began on Sunday (February 18) at the northern exam center of the Chilean Polytechnic University.
Candidates applying for mechanical and electrical engineering jobs are required to take a weighted running test, according to the Liberty Times. According to Taiwan Railway officials, in the test, men will carry 35 to 45 kg of luggage, while women will carry 30 to 40 kg, making a round trip of 40 meters.
Some candidates performed well, while others felt there was room for improvement. One candidate said she came to the exam at the urging of her family, but she admitted she needed more practice carrying bags, while another was active in sports and was concerned about her performance. He said he was satisfied.
Some candidates are rail enthusiasts who are integrating their interests with a potential career. One candidate said he is a longtime railroad enthusiast who collects models and frequently takes pictures of trains.
Taiwan Railways announced that it has hired 936 candidates and 1,328 people are on the waiting list. At the north test center, 183 test takers attended the physical fitness test out of 204 scheduled to take the test, resulting in an attendance rate of approximately 89%.
