A new city center in Gothenburg, Sweden, is being developed to accelerate health innovation.
Next Step Group and Vectura Fastigheter have teamed up to establish GoCo Health Innovation City, with over USD 400 million invested in the 200,000 square meter project.
The development architects are Semrén + Måsson.
Once complete, it will create a new life science district and city center focused on health and wellness, attracting researchers, entrepreneurs and talent from around the world to accelerate health innovation in a stimulating environment. It turns out.
GoCo Health Innovation City is currently in the construction phase and is expected to eventually house 350 life sciences companies and create 7,000 new jobs. Medical solutions company Möllnlycke Healthcare will move its headquarters to a new building this year that will accommodate 800 employees locally.
GoCo House, a 21,000 sqm flagship building, opened in February 2023. A mixed-tenant building designed for collaboration and spontaneous meetings, with many social areas spread across two floors.
The first residential area is expected to be fully constructed by 2025. The 450 apartments are built using sustainable materials with varying heights, creating optimal conditions for sedum roofs and solar panels. Further housing development is planned.
The service industry is also moving in, with an increase in fitness clubs, restaurants, and retail stores.
The development was conceived when pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca sold land adjacent to its Gothenburg campus, with a condition of the sale that the new owner would add value to the existing healthcare ecosystem in the region.
