The first ever state-level yoga conference organised by the Ministry of Kannada Language and Culture and the Karnataka Yoga Teachers Federation was held in the city on Saturday to highlight the benefits of yoga at large across the world.
The conference was inaugurated by Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dinesh Gundu Rao, who said that yoga promotes mental peace in an individual, which leads to social and global peace.
He said the conference was being held to highlight the benefits of yoga, noting that Swami Vivekananda introduced yoga to the West and brought a slice of Indian culture with it.Yoga not only promotes physical fitness but also mental focus through meditation, he added.
The Minister said yoga has been revived in educational institutions and a recently held Yoga Sabha was attended by around 600,000 people across the state, including ASHA and Anganwadi activists. Yoga Kendras have been set up across the state to promote yoga given its health benefits, the Minister added. Yoga promotes not only physical and mental health but also spiritual growth, leading to peace and amity in society, the Minister said.
State Congress member Harish Gowda and Yoga Conference chairman SP Yogana were among those present.
