with kiki palmer Stephanie Hsu In a new sci-fi animated series, you play an alien doctor and best friend who accidentally discovers a potential cure for anxiety while navigating sexual exploration, family drama, and workplace politics. The second best hospital in the galaxy.

Prime Video’s new comedy, out February 23, follows Dr. Sleach (Sue) and Dr. Krack (Palmer), two renowned surgeons in the galaxy who are willing to bend a few rules.

They find themselves in a whirlwind that puts their survival at risk as they “tackle anxiety-eating parasites, illegal time loops, and deep-space sexually transmitted diseases,” according to the series description. He risks taking on a “very dangerous and potentially groundbreaking” case. But it can also help solve big problems.

As Dr. Clack likes to casually say, the worst that can happen is death.

The voice cast also includes Kieran Culkin, Sam Smith, Maya Rudolph, and Natasha Lyonne.

Reactions to the out-of-this-world script

Sue told Yahoo Entertainment that she laughed out loud when she read the script for the first time.

“I feel like I just remember having a good laugh and then being like, ‘Oh, what?'” There’s a sex closet, there’s a love triangle, there’s alien hormones and intergalactic sexually transmitted diseases. “There are,” she says. “Then we got to see the footage, and it was like a great moment in the world that we experience on this show.”

Sue stars in the 2023 Academy Award-winning sci-fi film Everything at once, wherever you areafter landing another sci-fi role, she believes she “may just be weird.”

“Maybe that’s the bottom line. You know, it’s just kind of in my blood,” she laughed.

Despite the laughs, Palmer felt the script was “really deep and real.”

“For me, my favorite medium to talk about deep things has always been comedy, because I love the idea of, ‘Oh my God, you’re crying and I made you laugh.’ ” she told Yahoo Entertainment. “I think that’s when things become better accepted. It’s like, let’s not be sad about it. Let’s laugh and cry at the ridiculousness of life sometimes, and this show… I think they do that really well.”

Palmer and crack relationship

In the show, anxiety is a major storyline. Dr. Krack suffers from anxiety and her mother, a fellow physician, has made her mark on the book she wrote about her daughter’s illness and has made a career out of overcoming her anxiety. . Over the course of the series, Clack tries various methods to control his anxiety, but ultimately hopes to be cured of it once and for all.

“I actually relate to my character’s storyline in my own way. Her relationship with her mother, her relationship with her mental health, and how she always manages that and takes care of herself. She’s trying to figure it out, and she’s trying to find that balance,” Palmer says. “I’ve been very open about my anxiety and depression, and I’ve been seeing a therapist since I was 16 or 17. I have two therapists now.”

architectural chemistry

Palmer and Hsu worked hard to develop great chemistry between their characters, even though they didn’t record in the same room.

“That’s one of the downsides. With animation work, you’re usually on set by yourself, so you don’t have the opportunity to exploit cast members or colleagues, so to speak,” Palmer explains.

Palmer felt that by working with Sue, he “knew her personality from interviews and things like her style.” But when they play me her recordings, it’s also an opportunity to see how we exist together. development of this character. ”

Sue also agrees with Palmer’s opinion.

“I’m a huge fan of Keke and was lucky enough to meet her last year before we even found out we were working together. …From the moment we met, and just as a fan of her work, I… I think I really feel her spirit. So I could imagine what it would be like, as if we were a best friend doctor in an alien galaxy. “It felt like,” she says.

Sue said listening to Palmer’s audio playback inspired her to “build a friendship and a relationship based on these two good friends who already exist as human beings.”

“It was really, really special,” she says. “It’s really rare that you can feel the chemistry even through the voices.”
