This June, Taylor Casey, 41, of Chicago, Illinois, decided to travel to the Bahamas, where she planned to attend a month-long yoga certification retreat at Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat in the Bahamas.
The retreat took place on Paradise Island, a small resort connected by bridge to downtown Nassau, the capital of New Providence Island.
Taylor has been practicing yoga for 15 years and went on the retreat “to achieve a long-term goal of deepening my yoga practice,” and her trip was expected to last a total of four to five weeks.
However, on June 19, 2024, Taylor mysteriously disappeared.
Throughout the retreat, she kept in regular contact with friends and family to update them on her journey, and said she looked forward to returning home once the retreat was over and sharing what she’d learned.
On June 18, the day before Taylor disappeared, she sent her mother a photo of herself and the message, “I miss you mom. I miss you. Look, I’m at the beach.”
Taylor was last seen at the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat in the Bahamas on the evening of June 19. She did not show up for class the following morning and has never been seen or heard from again.
At that point, officials contacted the U.S. Embassy on June 20 and reported Taylor missing to the Royal Bahamas Police Force.
An investigation into her disappearance was launched immediately, with searches for Taylor using dogs, divers and drones in the area surrounding the yoga retreat and other parts of the island.
