Alan Wake 2 was met with widespread praise when it was released on October 27, 2023. I called it “a strange, imaginative and truly ambitious sequel that’s sure to subvert your expectations.” Alan Wake 2 reviewBut if there’s one decision that has caused upset from the wider community, it’s Remedy Entertainment’s move to go for a digital-only release – a decision that the studio has now decided to reverse eight months later.
Announced at Summer Game Fest 2024 alongside the first DLC, Alan Wake 2: Night Springs, Remedy announced that a physical edition of Alan Wake 2 is coming, with pre-orders available on June 8, 2024. In an interview with GamesRadar+, communications director Thomas Puha said the team “wanted to prioritize quality above all else” for the October release, and that the decision to skip a physical edition was “a result of us wanting to take more time to polish the game… Quality has always been our number one priority, and we wanted to make the most of our development time.”
There are two physical editions of Alan Wake 2 available this year: the Physical Deluxe Edition costs $79.99 / €79.99 / £64.99 and includes the base game as well as all the Digital Deluxe Edition items including Alan and Saga cosmetic items, the Expansion Pass for two DLCs and a code for the Alan Wake Remastered Digital Edition, and there’s also an Alan Wake 2 Limited Collector’s Edition. Made by the folks at Limited RunRetailing for $199.99, this massive pack includes everything in the Physical Deluxe Edition, plus the exclusive Collector’s Edition box, Alan Wake’s Angel Lamp replica (lighted and functional), Ocean View Hotel keychain and key (room 665), Coffee World tweezers, and an art book.
Alan Wake 2 Best Remedy Game It’s great to see the game the studio has created being released in a physical form to enjoy long into the future. It’s funny to think that after the original was temporarily removed from the Xbox Store due to expiring music licenses, Remedy acquired the IP rights to the franchise from Microsoft Gaming, sparking efforts to create a sequel 13 years later. Anyway, if anyone asks me for help, I’ll try to justify how I can wring $200 out of my bank balance for the Collector’s Edition… Maybe I won’t need electricity if Alan’s angel lamp can light the way.
