Hokie Wellness is offering a variety of programs throughout the month of March. They include:
Mental Health First Aid (online): Eliminate fear and hesitation in starting conversations about mental health and substance use by increasing understanding and providing action plans that teach people how to safely and responsibly identify and address problems when they arise. Masu.
March 7th, 12:00pm to 1:00pm: Active Listening Practice: This session is designed to provide you with a space to practice active listening. Whether you’re new to active listening or have been using it for years, everyone needs to practice from time to time to continue improving. The workshop will be held at He Torgerson 3310. Registration required.
March 12th and March 14th, 12:15-13:00: Menopause – Please wait: Things are about to go crazy (online): This is an open, candid, and educational two-part discussion covering the basics of perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause. March 14th, 12:00pm to 1:00pm: Pornography in Adolescents’ Lives (Hybrid): Join Professor Jennifer A. Johnson, Chair of the Department of Sociology, to discuss how digital pornography is more accessible to youth through social media and the impact this accessibility has on youth sexual health . Sessions will be held via Zoom in room 3600 of the North End Center. Registration required.
March 18th, 12:00pm to 12:45pm: Mental Health Resource Briefing (Online): This session will provide an overview of the mental health resources available to Virginia Tech employees. Facilitators will provide information about timely care and employee assistance programs and answer questions after the presentation. Registration required.
March 19th and March 21st, 12:15-1pm: Perimenopause (online): These two sessions will provide information about menopause, including when it begins, symptoms and how to manage them, and what to expect during this period. March 20th, 12pm to 1:15pm: Brain Break at Hokie Wellness: Rest your mind and make some DIY crafts at Hokie Wellness. Please see the registration link for more information. Sessions will be held at the North End Center. Registration required.
March 22nd, 12:30-13:30: Mindful Journaling: Deliberate and mindful reflection provides employees with an opportunity to reaffirm their sense of purpose by engaging with a series of guided journaling prompts. Sessions will be held at the North End Center. Registration required.
March 26th and 28th, 12:15-1pm: Menopause (online): Discussions will center around symptoms and how to manage them, your physical and mental health, available treatments, and how loved ones and colleagues at work can support you. March 27, 1-2pm: Healthy Boundaries for Professionals: Consider and practice setting healthy boundaries in the workplace, with a focus on communication and connection. This workshop will focus on issues faced by underrepresented and underserved faculty and staff. The workshop will be held at the North End Center. Registration required.
April 2nd and April 4th, 12:15-13:00: Postmenopause and what’s next? (online): These sessions will explain in detail what it means to be post-menopausal and the importance of taking care of your health. Today we discuss how great things start. Registration required.
