Dan Quinn knows that fellow NFL players and coaches can become lifelong friends.
On Friday, Quinn appeared as a guest on “The Kevin Sheehan Show” (Team 980) and talked about “the connection they have as they go through this together.” The man there is hurting, fighting, going through it. That’s a really great moment when you see what a person is made of. ”
He said that in NFL football, “They’re pushed to their absolute limits. It’s not easy to give it your all and go to the edge. Being in that environment brings you closer and creates a connection. If it’s really solid, that bond won’t change in three months, three years, 30 years. ‘Hey, we did it together, we did it together.’ You can go back to that conversation knowing, “I went through that.” Respect is created through moments that are never lost. ”
Sheehan asked if Dunn reached out to Joe Gibbs, the franchise’s most successful coach, before taking the job. Quinn revealed that he actually visited Gibbs before taking the job with the Atlanta Falcons. “The reason I asked to meet with him was because he had the most unique history of having a lot of success with different quarterbacks. I really wanted to know why.”
In fact, Gibbs remains the only NFL coach to win three Super Bowls with three different starting quarterbacks (Joe Theisman, Doug Williams, and Mark Rypien). Furthermore, none of the three will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
“I wanted to know what was important to him at the time. I didn’t meet him this time, but it was certainly nice to get a call from him after I was already here.”
When Sheehan asked Quinn what he was learning about the current members of the command, Quinn replied: “Certainly the defensive tackles, that’s a strength. Those two guys (Jonathan Allen, Daron Payne) are tough to block in a lot of ways…I can’t wait to coach them, to be honest.”
Quinn said that over the next two weeks, all coaches will be watching footage from the squad to assess what their players’ best skills are and how they can best utilize them. .
The new sheriff intends to make his message clear to his staff and players. He told Sheehan what he wanted the identity of this team to be. That’s what you keep looking for. Is it demonstrated on tape? ”
