Pvolve, a functional fitness company with locations across the U.S., plans to open four studios in Austin this winter, starting with one downtown.
Marcie Bain is spearheading the new franchise along with her daughters, Mackenzie, Madison, and Brooke Bain. Marcie and her husband, Scott Bain, have owned a construction company in West Texas for over 25 years. She says she discovered Pvolve when she was looking for a fitness routine that would keep her motivated while traveling.
“A lot of people ask, ‘What is functional fitness?'” says Marcy. “It means using specific movements in your training that reflect the kinds of activities you encounter in everyday life.”
Pvolve workouts train the body in ways it was naturally designed to move, she says, including by taking pressure off joints and focusing on muscles instead. Pvolve uses patented resistance-based equipment, including the P.Ball, which targets thigh, glute and core muscles, and the P.Bands, which target arm, back and shoulder muscles.
Marcy said she likes that Pvolve workouts are sustainable because they aren’t “too hard” for her to work against her while exercising, and she’s excited to introduce Austin to Pvolve’s ideas on fitness, health and longevity.
“The training you can do in your early 20s is probably not something you can do in your early 50s,” Marcy says. “Everyone has their own reasons for training and goals, but this is a very accepting environment and I think it really motivates people.”
Marcy said they plan to open the first Pvolve studio in downtown Austin this winter, and are also considering the Westlake, Bee Cave and North Austin areas for other locations.
