Bollywood star Deepika Padukone shared her 5-minute self-care routine on Instagram during Self-Care Month. She has made exercise a part of her lifestyle and regularly shares snippets of her workouts and yoga routines on Instagram. She believes in the power of working out for an entirely different reason. She captioned the post, “I love a good workout. I don’t work out to look good, I work out to feel healthy.” As a pregnant woman, she has always been vocal about self-care and is also a passionate mental health advocate. The 38-year-old actress shared a very simple routine she follows when she can’t find time to work out.

Deepika Padukone has taken her fitness to the next level with a new yoga asana.

The five-minute routine is a simple yoga pose called Viparita Karani, which means ‘handstand’ in Sanskrit. In this yoga pose, you lie down with your feet propped up against a wall. This rejuvenating yoga asana has numerous benefits, including calming the nervous system and boosting the immune system, which are essential in today’s busy and stressful world.

Pregnant women can try Viparita Karani with the aid of a cushion or maternity pillow. This exercise reduces muscle and joint pain, a common discomfort during pregnancy. A cushion on your back reduces pressure, making the exercise safer. It improves fluid retention and elevating your legs in this exercise reduces swelling in your ankles. However, people with glaucoma and high blood pressure are advised not to attempt this yoga pose.

advantage

Viparita Karani has countless benefits depending on the time of day you practice this asana.

  1. After waking up:

Viparita Karani exercise is a great way to start your day. It stimulates the lymphatic and glymphatic systems and strengthens the immune system. It increases the flow of oxygenated blood to the upper limbs, making you more agile and energetic. It also aids in detoxification and lymphatic drainage, helping to flush waste products out of the body. This exercise helps to stretch the hips and hamstrings, improving flexibility.

2. Before bed:

This exercise calms the body and is perfect for unwinding after a long day. It stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, promotes relaxation, improves digestion and promotes better sleep. Viparita Karani also relieves leg stiffness after a long day at work and improves the quality of your sleep.

Viparita Karani or Legs Up The Wall Pose is a versatile yoga asana that can be incorporated into your regular workout routine for a calming effect on the body and mind, and overall wellbeing. If you want to feel fully relaxed and rejuvenated to start and end your day on a positive note, you must give Viparita Karani a try. You will experience better quality sleep, improved gut health and immunity, and stress-free days.
