Only a third of voters have “confidence” in President Joe Biden’s physical and mental strength, and nearly half believe he could be replaced by the Democratic nominee, according to a new poll. I think there is at least some degree of gender.
In a Monmouth University survey, Donald Trump scored slightly better on confidence in his mental and physical stamina, at 51%, despite being only a few years younger than the president (81 vs. 77, respectively). of respondents said they trusted the former president. Only 32% of people have the same confidence in Biden, according to the data.
Of course, when you break it down across party lines, the numbers change dramatically. In Biden’s case, only 2% of Republicans said they were confident in the president’s physical strength, but that number jumped to 72% of Democrats. While 90% of Republicans are confident in Trump, only 12% of Democrats agree. Trump scores higher among independents, with 57% expressing confidence in him and 20% saying the same about Biden.
Trump recently claimed his public gaffes were intentional, while Biden joked about his advanced age amid mounting criticism.
The survey also found that a significant number of people believe that both Biden and Trump may not end up on the ticket in November. Almost half (48%) think it is very likely or somewhat likely that Biden will be replaced by the Democratic nominee. As for Trump, 32% of respondents said it was very likely or somewhat likely that he would be removed as the Republican nominee due to legal issues, despite his previous wins in the primaries. .
In terms of overall support in head-to-head races, both Biden and Trump trailed by 30% of “sure” voters. Another 14% said they would “probably” vote for Biden, and 16% said the same for Trump. The rest “probably” or “definitely” do not support either candidate.
The Monmouth poll was conducted by telephone and online among more than 900 adults nationwide from February 8 to 12, and has a margin of error of up to 4.3 percentage points.
