Flint, Michigan (CBS Detroit) – It’s fair to say that everyone has mental health issues from time to time, but for the thousands of men and women behind bars, those problems can seem insurmountable. One woman is on a mission to help those released from prison do so in a much better mental state.
Life hasn’t always been kind to many of the women incarcerated at the Genesee County Jail. There are many reasons why women end up in prison, but for Dee Dee Taylor, it’s personal.
With her father incarcerated and her sister Breonna Taylor’s death making national news, she had a choice: to get angry or to do something about it.
Taylor Made Re-entry is a nonprofit that works with the Department of Justice to provide mental health resources to incarcerated people.
Percy Glover, who works closely with TaylorMade, knows first-hand how detrimental a time in prison can be to mental health.
Drawing on Glover’s experience in prison and Taylor’s experience living on the outside without a father, the two work together to provide the right resources at the right time to help people get to the right place.
