MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) – New Ulm Medical Center has launched a new mental health program aimed at providing a transition between inpatient and outpatient treatment.
“We’ve been saying that we feel this could help some movement in the inpatient unit. In many cases, if a patient needs a different type of treatment, there is no next step. ” – Mary
This program provides a group therapy environment for rehabilitation. Each group is made up of eight adults and meets Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The goal is to advocate for the patient’s mental health and help them succeed outside of treatment.
“We have seen a lot of mental health issues among our young community since the coronavirus pandemic, and a lot of anxiety and self-confidence issues, including not going to school and having to go back. – Pete
“There’s a disconnect between being an inpatient and seeing a mental health therapist. They can go home at night and experience their lives and come back during the day.” – Duane
This new program is one of the few outpatient programs in the region and can save patients and their families time and money, making treatment a more viable option.
The medical center hopes this will encourage people to continue learning about mental health issues and seek help when needed.
“We work with people to help them have a voice and feel heard and seen.” – Duane
The medical center also plans to open an alternate day program that will run three days a week.
