BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Prospect Park recently saw the addition of a new adult fitness area and improved playground, according to officials.
The new development was made possible with $850,000 in funding through District 39’s participatory budgeting.
As a result, Park Alliance expanded Harmony Playground with a sandbox shade structure and an expanded adult fitness area adjacent to the playground with equipment that is universally accessible to people of all ability levels.

These include equipment for sit-ups, chest and back presses, leg raises, pull-ups, dips, squats, etc. Improvements have also been made with new seating, plantings and safe surfaces to enhance the visitor experience, officials said.
The Prospect Park Alliance, City Council Member Shahana Hanif and community members from Park Slope’s Good Neighbors held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday for a new adult fitness area and playground improvements.
“The Alliance’s founding mission is to make parks accessible to everyone, so that everyone can feel welcome and take advantage of all that Brooklyn’s backyard has to offer. Key to this goal is having park destinations like our new fitness areas that will be intergenerational destinations for wellness, empowering our community to be their happiest, healthiest selves and know that parks are a place for everyone,” Prospect Park Alliance president Morgan Monaco said in a statement.
