Pittsburgh, July 29, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–With funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Human Resources and the Pennsylvania Department of Health, the Jewish Health Foundation (JHF) has awarded more than $1 million to three local grant recipients to launch perinatal behavioral health consultation and access programs statewide for healthcare providers in prenatal, delivery and postpartum care settings.
Earlier this year, Thriving PA released a report on perinatal psychiatric access programs and more than 25 maternal and child health organizations in Pennsylvania prioritized the program in a collaborative plan in response to substance use disorders and mental illnesses continuing to be the leading causes of pregnancy-related deaths in Pennsylvania. Goals for the Perinatal Behavioral Health Consultation and Access Program’s first year of implementation include creating consultations, resource referrals and educational services for perinatal providers, educating providers about services, and building relationships among providers to ensure effective use of services.

Southeast: Philadelphia Department of Public Health, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine Center for Addiction Health Policy, and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia
JHF is acting as the fiscal agent for federal Coronavirus State Financial Recovery Funds provided through the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services to reduce maternal mortality, maternal morbidity, and/or support new families in Pennsylvania. Funding for this program is also provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s CDC grant “Preventing Maternal Mortality: Supporting Maternal Mortality Review Committees.”
