HYDERABAD: Modern warfare is no longer solely in the physical domain but a dynamic and constantly evolving domain increasingly influenced by complex data networks and advanced cyber technologies, Indian Air Force Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhary said on Saturday.
Addressing the Combined Graduation Ceremony (CGP) of the 213th Officer Course of the Air Force Academy (AFA) at Dundigal near here, Chaudhary also said tomorrow’s conflicts cannot be fought with yesterday’s mindset.
“Modern warfare is dynamic and constantly evolving. It’s no longer just the physical domain; it’s increasingly influenced by complex data networks and advanced cyber technologies. As leaders, you must adapt, innovate and effectively leverage technology to win wars,” the Air Force general said.
He further stated that professionalism, proactiveness and initiative are the three most desired qualities in a leader, but that thinking leaders are also necessary.
“As you embark on this extraordinary journey, be guided by the Indian Air Force’s core values of Mission, Integrity and Excellence,” he advised the newly commissioned officers.
“For us as military personnel, mission accomplishment is paramount. It is essential to maintaining the direction, efficiency and overall success of our organization,” he said.
He also suggested that the habit of reading should be cultivated and would bring great benefits.
“The more you read, the more you will understand the complexities of your field. Reading will enable you to adapt and lead with clarity in unknown situations,” he said.
He said while gaining expertise was paramount, newly commissioned officers should also hone their skills in other areas.
Regarding integrity, he noted how making ethical choices, upholding the highest standards of conduct, and leading by example inspires trust and loyalty with team members.
Chaudhary spoke about the IAF’s vision statement “People First, Mission Always” and asked the newly commissioned officers to earn the respect of their subordinates and peers through professional competence, physical and moral courage, character and empathy.
The CGP marks the culmination of successful training of 235 air cadets from the flight and ground mission wings of the Indian Air Force.
Examiner Chaudhary awarded the Presidential Commission to the flight cadets who successfully completed the training.
According to a defence ministry release, the graduating officers included 22 women officers who have been commissioned in various branches of the IAF.
On the occasion, nine officers of the Indian Navy, nine officers of the Indian Coast Guard and one officer from a friendly country were also awarded ‘Wings’ for successfully completing flying training.
According to the school, this is also the first CGP in which 25 cadets who joined the National Defence Academy four years ago for the land mission branch have been commissioned as officers.
The examiners presented various awards to graduating students who excelled in different areas of training.
According to the announcement, Flying Officer Happy Singh was awarded the President’s Shield and the Chief of Air Staff Sword of Honour for being first in the overall merit rankings of the pilot course.
