The League of Women Voters of McHenry County will hold a forum Thursday night in Crystal Lake about a referendum on sales tax funding for the Mental Health Commission.
The event will be held in person at McHenry County College’s Lucht Auditorium starting at 7 p.m., and will be livestreamed on Facebook.
Voters countywide will be asked on their March 19 primary ballot whether they would like to see a 0.25% sales tax increase to fund the McHenry County Mental Health Commission. If approved, the county would no longer levy property taxes that currently fund the Mental Health Commission. In addition, we provide financial support to many mental health care and service organizations.
Early voting is already taking place at the county clerk’s office in Woodstock and will expand to other locations next month.
Speakers at the forum include County Commissioners Carolyn Campbell and Michael Scala, as well as Suzanne Hoban, executive director of the Family Health Partnership, and executive director of Independence Health & Therapies. Including a certain John Buckley.
“Our Mental Health Commission is one of the jewels of McHenry County, providing essential funding for an array of services for people with intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, substance abuse disorders, and mental health issues. ” said federation president Paula Ekström. In a news release. “These services often help uninsured or underinsured people and their families. In this forum, we will provide details on the pros and cons of this referendum so that voters can make an informed choice. That’s the mission of our organization, and we’re proud to help.”
Luecht Auditorium is located in Building B of McHenry County College at 8900 Northwest Highway.
