ROCHESTER — Mayo Clinic has reopened the John E. Herman Home and Treatment Facility, restoring eight psychiatric beds to Rochester.
The facility will reopen in late April 2024, Mayo Clinic said in a statement.
The facility, located at 351 SW 14th Street across from Mayo Clinic Hospital St. Mary’s, was licensed to provide residential care for adults with mental illness in September 2018. However, Mayo Clinic closed the facility in March 2020 due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The facility can currently accommodate eight residents at a time, though it is authorized to accommodate up to 16 patients, according to its Minnesota Department of Human Services license.
“John E. Herman Home and Treatment Facility brings together many areas of specialized care in one place to help transform the lives of our residents, including equipping them with the skills to transition back into society and into independent living,” said Dr. Matei Markota, medical director for the facility.
Treatment at the facility is voluntary and individualized, with patients staying for three to six months, according to the Mayo Clinic, and health care provider, family and self-referrals are accepted.
