Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards speaks at the grand opening ceremony of the LSU Health Shreveport Medical Education Center on Monday morning, December 11, 2023.
LSU Health Shreveport held its 6th Annual Research Celebration Thursday to celebrate the past year’s research accomplishments.
“Under the leadership of Dr. (Chris) Keville, and through the extraordinary work of you and the other faculty in this room, we have experienced tremendous growth in our research enterprise,” said Provost Dr. David Guzik. LSU Health Shreveport.
Some of the researchers and facilitators who collaborated on this research project are listed below.
- Excellence in Extramural Funding – Quanguang Zhang, Ph.D.
- Excellence in Translational Research – Dr. Elizabeth DiBrow
- Excellence in Innovation – Arrigo De Benedetti, PhD
- Rising star in research – Dr. Krista Rogers
- Community Champion – W. Clinton “Bubba” Raspberry Jr.
- Dr. Sushil Jain received the Career Service Award in recognition of his service to the institution and his contributions to science over a period of over 42 years.
Each of these individuals was presented at the 2024 Research Excellence Award ceremony on Thursday night.
At the celebration, Mr. Kevil, LSUHS Vice President for Research, also highlighted several achievements achieved during 2023.
These achievements include:
- More than $23 million in extramural grants have been awarded to LSU Health Shreveport in fiscal year 2023, and more than $20 million has been awarded to date in fiscal year 2024.
- Over 100 clinical trials with high participant diversity. LSUHS was the No. 1 institution in enrollment in 2023 for his two national studies of multiple ligament knee injuries (STaR) and surgical timing and rehabilitation for Black patients. The African American Association with Parkinson’s Disease (BLAAC-PD) study.
- New grants and collaborations are being awarded starting in 2024.
- Center of Excellence for Emerging Viral Threats BSL-2, BSL-3, and New Medical Education Center Training Labs.
