The ex-husband of Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) pleaded guilty Wednesday to dangerous driving in connection with two altercations between the congresswoman and her son earlier this year. Rep. Boebert’s ex-husband, Jason Boebert, will serve six months of unsupervised probation as part of a plea agreement for the incidents, which happened outside her home and at a restaurant.
Polls show Boebert set to win the Republican primary in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, but public altercations and a turbulent home life could hurt her in November’s general election.

The incidents in question happened in early January. The first happened after Lauren Boebert drove to her ex-husband’s house to pick up one of their sons and had dinner with him at his mother’s house. As she and her son left for the car, her ex-husband “approached her and tried to hug her,” her aide told reporters. Lauren Boebert put her hand on his chest, but in the process “put her hand in his face,” the aide added.

Lauren Boebert walked out, but Jason Boebert reportedly later called to apologize and ask if they could meet in public. The two met at Miner’s Complaint, at which point Jason Boebert began to become “nasty,” “disrespectful” and an “idiot,” according to Lauren Boebert’s aide.
Jason Boebert allegedly made “aggressive” and “unromantic” moves to grab his ex-wife, the aide added. She claimed she punched him twice in the nose, but Lauren Boebert’s aide reiterated that she only put her hand in his face to push him away.
Her ex-husband called police and she reportedly remained at the restaurant to speak with officers. She and her ex-husband returned to their respective homes, and police said they were “actively investigating” the incident.
“I made a mistake,” Jason Boebert said in a separate statement at the time. “We both overreacted. I just… [the] My sons and I still love her very much. We share a pain deep in our hearts… It seems we are pulling further and further away from each other. I want what is best for her. Perhaps it is best for me to remain silent.”
Three days after the incident, Jason Boebert was reported to have gotten into a fistfight with his son. Police charged him with reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, trespass, obstructing an officer, prohibited use of a weapon, harassment, and third-degree assault. He pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment, and the other charges were dropped as part of a plea agreement.
This isn’t the first time Jason Boebert has been accused of being physically violent towards his children. In 2023, another of the Boebert family’s sons called 911 and said his father was “throwing” him around the house. Lauren Boebert had her son call 911 again, recant the accusations, and give the phone to her.
“Hi, I’m your mom,” she said over the phone. “There was an argument at dinner and I know you guys need to come and talk to me. I’m at store number two. [our son] Preparing for the event.”
The dispatcher said officers would be going to the home, to which Lauren Boebert replied, “He doesn’t need help, but yes, they can come here.”
In May 2023, Lauren Boebert filed for divorce from Jason Boebert after 20 years of marriage. Boebert once sexually assaulted two women, one of whom was 16 years old at the time, at a bowling alley. The couple has four children, who they let play near loaded rifles. The couple also operated a gun-themed restaurant that poisoned 80 people, causing “abdominal cramps” and “diarrhea.”
In February 2004, a year before their marriage, Jason Boebert was arrested on domestic violence charges for punching, shoving, and kicking Lauren Boebert. In May 2004, Lauren Boebert was indicted on charges of third-degree assault, criminal damage to property, and underage drinking after she allegedly scratched Jason Boebert in the face and chest and vandalized his home.
Lauren Boebert is the third most responsible person for inciting anti-LGBTQ+ hate speech on Twitter. Among her many bigoted comments, she has accused LGBTQ+ people of “spitting in God’s face,” “slaughtering children,” and “corrupting a nation.”
Last November, Lauren Boebert was re-elected in her district by just 547 votes. Afterward, she made headlines after being caught vaping and groping children inside a theater during a performance of the musical “Apollo XI.” BeetlejuiceFacing a reelection defeat, she recently decided to run for reelection in a different district to improve her chances of winning.
Current polls suggest that Boebert has a very good chance of winning this month’s Republican primary, and if she wins, she will likely be re-elected to the House, as her district has elected a Republican in every election since 2010.
