Kartik Aaryan has stunned everyone with his physical transformation for Kabir Khan’s upcoming film Chandu Champion. The actor plays the role of India’s first Paralympic gold medallist Murlikanth Petkar in the biopic. In conversation with ETimes, Kartik opened up about the challenges of playing the role. When asked which was more difficult – emotional or physical preparation for the film, the actor replied:
Kartik said, “Getting into the role emotionally and physically was both challenging and interconnected. It took a lot of patience to build this body and it really took time. I never imagined a film like this, a genre like this and it’s something I have never attempted before. I tried to give 200 per cent of myself in every way, mentally and physically. We did a lot of workshops and read-throughs. I did a lot of workshops with dialect experts to master the Marathi and make sure I don’t overdo it. There is always a fine line between sounding right and overdoing it. I started preparing for this film quite some time ago. After all, I am really proud of the film.”
The “Satyaprem Ki Katha” actor further spoke about how Kabir Khan portrays heroes who deliver almost the best performances of their careers – be it John Abraham in “New York” or Ranveer Singh in “83”. Revealing if it was pressure for him, Karthik said, “Kabir Khan knows what suits an actor and what doesn’t. So, he decides a lot in the film depending on the actor. That’s his specialty. Plus, he wanted to portray me in a way that has never been done before. So, whenever his actors do a film or play a role with him, the role is different from anything they have done before.”
Chandu Champion is scheduled to release on June 14th.
