Popular actor and director Kabir Sadanand, known for his work in shows like “Kuch Kehti Hai Khamoshiyaan”, “Family No.1”, “Shagun” and “Kumkum – Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan”, feels that his overweight physique has helped him explore a new side to himself as an actor on screen.
He said, “For me, staying fit is not just about being physically fit and looking good. It helps me grow professionally too. As an artiste, I have always been baby fat and had the boy-next-door look, but times have changed, so have audience choices and I don’t want to be left behind. I want to explore new roles that push me to my limits. I am taking up fitness programmes to craft a new lean and sharp look. The results are visible and suddenly makers are seeing me in a new light which is encouraging to say the least. This will give me more opportunities to explore new roles. I am tired of playing the good guy on screen.”
Talking about his fitness programme, he said, “We all need to devote at least an hour a day to fitness. Exercise helps activate the right hormones that inspire confidence and make you smarter. I am very happy with the response and it feels good that people now recognise me as a health and fitness freak that I love. Maintaining a balance between work, rest and activity is essential and meditation helps calm a restless mind in these hectic times.”His time at the gym also gives him precious time with his daughter, who is his gym buddy.
He continued, “Exercise can also be something as simple as walking at a constant speed and talking while burning fat. The feeling after a good workout is great and it leaves you mentally relaxed, so your mental stress doesn’t increase or decrease. Exercising every day, 4-5 times a week, helps to build muscle and gain strength. Also, for people over 40, it is essential to build muscles that weaken with each passing year. It will definitely help you in old age. I seriously recommend exercising for at least an hour. There’s no better way to burn up your muscles than on the gym floor.”
Kabir feels that being healthy is not only important but essential and adds, “Without health, you cannot lead a happy life or contribute to your family and society. Wear your gym clothes and tackle your day to day problems. Staying healthy is easy. For instance, a walk every morning will improve your fitness levels. You need to plan intense workouts at the gym and know your limits. Exercise burns fat and controls cholesterol levels in the body. Various outdoor games like cricket, football, volleyball keep the body healthy. Regular exercise keeps you in shape. And morning yoga helps in calming the mind.”
He is also known for directing films like Fugly and Tum Milo Toh Sahi.
