Charleston, West Virginia — Gov. Jim Justice has appointed Deputy Chief of Staff Ann Erling as interim inspector general of the Department of Health, Human Services, and Health Facilities.

The attorney general made the announcement Friday. He said Erling will be tasked with leading independent oversight of programs within the three agencies.
“Ann has been a trusted advisor to me for years and has assisted my administration in countless ways,” Governor Justice said. “Her unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and efficiency in government makes her the perfect choice to lead the Office of Inspector General.
As inspector general, Erling will oversee investigations into fraud, waste and misuse of funds. She will be able to consult with Congress on policy development.
“I have no doubt that she will work tirelessly to ensure that West Virginia taxpayer dollars are spent wisely,” the judge added.
Governor Justice asked Erling to remain involved as a senior advisor throughout his administration. She will serve concurrently as interim inspector general.
“I am honored that Governor Justice has trusted me to serve as Inspector General,” Erling said. “I am deeply committed to ensuring that West Virginians receive the highest quality services from their government and that taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly and effectively.
Prior to his current role, he served as senior vice president at Summit Community Bank.
Erling is a native of Shinnston, West Virginia and has lived in Kanawha County since 1991.
