The Consulate General of India in Istanbul in collaboration with Spor Istanbul under the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) organised the 10th International Day of Yoga celebrations at the beautiful Sarayburnu Park on 21 July.
This marks the fourth year that the Consulate and IBB have worked together to successfully host the event, with previous locations including the Bosphorus Floating Platform and the historic Halic Congress Center. Yoga and fitness enthusiasts from all over Istanbul look forward to the event all year round.
The program began with a speech by Consul General Mihit Vineet, who expressed his gratitude to Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Spor Istanbul for their support in organizing the event.
Focusing on this year’s theme, “Yoga for Self and Society,” the Consul General spoke about the widespread support for yoga within the United Nations and how yoga is not only good for physical and mental health, but also helps relieve stress and anxiety.
This year, the Consulate also ran a social media campaign leading up to the event, highlighting the positive effects of peanuts on children’s health, immune systems and psychological well-being, as well as ways to prevent lifestyle-related diseases.
In addition to the flagship event, this year the Consulate has partnered with the Istanbul municipalities of Çorlu, Bursa, Bodrum and Sariyer to hold pre-events prior to the main event, with follow-up events with the municipalities of Beşiktaş and Şişli also planned in the near future.
