FALL RIVER — Starting in early March, more than 1,400 students at Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School will be able to see a doctor for free in the building.
HealthFirst Family Care Centers announced it is partnering with Diman to open the region’s first school-based health center. Diman Deputy Superintendent and Principal Andrew Rebelo said this means students will be able to see a doctor at no out-of-pocket cost.
“Students can be seen here instead of having to miss school for a doctor’s appointment,” Rebelo said. “You can get the next level of care.”
“We have been looking to open a school-based health center on the South Coast since 2021,” said Linda Medeiros, HealthFirst Chief Operating Officer. “We look forward to supporting students in Diman and the Greater Fall River region.”

When will the HealthFirst Center in Diman open?
The HealthFirst Center in Diman will open on March 4th. The office is located right next to the school health room. Open weekdays during the academic year.
What services can students receive at HealthFirst clinics?
Diman students have access to HealthFirst physicians for both chronic illnesses and acute medical problems, from colds to addiction treatment. Students can treat sore throats and sports injuries, take medication for asthma and acne, get vaccinations, learn about weight management, treat menstrual issues, and even get an annual health checkup. .
The center will also offer behavioral health services to treat mental health issues, emotional issues such as stress and grief, and LGBTQ+ support.
What kind of medical professionals will help?
Doctors and nurses will be on-site.

What are the benefits of using HealthFirst clinics?
“Many adolescents in the Greater Fall River region lack access to primary care providers for chronic and acute medical problems,” said Eric Vaught, Chief Medical Officer at HealthFirst. said the doctor. “We are therefore pleased to move forward with this partnership with Diman as a first step towards Health First meeting this specific need in our community.”
Students also don’t have to miss school, and parents don’t have to take time off from work or arrange transportation to the doctor.
The clinic is also free to use.
“This is a really great avenue to better serve the students in our community,” said Diman Superintendent Brian Bentley.
Do I need health insurance to use a HealthFirst clinic?
No, the clinic accepts most insurances, but students can receive treatment regardless.
The clinic can also help students obtain health insurance if they do not have it.
What if my Diman student already has a doctor? Can they still use the HealthFirst clinic?
Students who already have a primary care physician can continue to use the HealthFirst clinic if they wish. The clinic will coordinate information with your doctor.
Will HealthFirst coordinate information with student parents?
Yes, parents can attend the meeting in person or by phone if they wish. We will also follow up with parents as necessary.
