After building a successful client base as a hairstylist, Michelle Jordan decided it was time to start her own business.
“I wanted to open my own hair salon, but I also wanted to open yoga classes,” Jordan says.
Jordan had developed an interest in yoga after taking a class previously and realized how beneficial it was physically, mentally and emotionally, so she decided to get instructor training.
“It’s a holistic experience,” she said, adding that the training helps participants achieve balance in their lives, be more focused and feel happier.
As a result of Jordan’s decision, in 2021 she opened The Color Bar, a hair and yoga studio on Main Street in Norwood, where she is able to combine her passion and talents in both fields.
“The hair side of the business is always super busy,” says Jordan, as she and fellow stylists Brandi Carly and Jenny Bowers were all cutting and coloring clients on Thursday morning.

“The salon is running smoothly and it’s a great environment. We all work well together,” she added.
Jordan believes the key to growing her yoga clientele is her team of instructors: she and Carly are both instructors, and she has recruited a team of five more experienced instructors from the area.
“We offer instruction at all levels,” added Jordan, who is trying to dispel common misconceptions about yoga.
“A lot of people think yoga is just for young people or people who are already fit, but that’s not true at all,” she says. “We have a lot of people over 55 who come in and they come at all different fitness levels. Yoga is good for everyone.”
Jordan emphasizes the benefits of yoga that go beyond the physical realm.
“Yoga helps participants physically, mentally and emotionally,” she said, adding that it is a particularly effective way to reduce anxiety.
A yoga class led by instructor Frankie Schooley had just finished this morning, with class participants praising the activity, the instructor and the owner.
“It’s great to have a place like this in the Norwood area,” said Cheryl Edwards, a retired teacher.
Beverly Little, who has been attending for “about a year and a half,” praised the content and diversity of instructors.
“There are classes for all levels,” Little said.
Schooley praised Jordan’s efforts to expand operations in the Norwood area.
“We love Michelle,” she said, “and she’s made this a great place and a fun environment to work in. The community should definitely take advantage of this opportunity.”
