On March 16, community members gathered at the CHEER Community Center in Georgetown for the free Sussex County Health and Wellness Fair hosted by the Behavioral Health Consortium and its chair, Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall Long. Featuring a variety of health-focused activities, informative sessions, and interactive booths, the fair served as a hub to promote health and community engagement.
“As a nurse who was born and raised here, and a resident of Sussex, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to bring together a group of resources for both physical and mental health,” Hall-Long said. he said. “Today is an opportunity for us to go out and get the resources we need and give back to those who would like to donate blood.”
One of the highlights of the fair was the variety of health screenings and services offered on-site, including blood pressure testing, HIV testing, and blood donation. In addition to screenings, the fair featured interactive workshops and presentations on topics such as nutrition, mental health awareness, and fitness.
The fair also facilitated networking opportunities for attendees to connect with local health care providers, community organizations, and support groups. Representatives from various health care facilities were on hand to answer questions, provide guidance, and provide information about available services and programs.
