Excelsior Wellness has extended the timeline for the first phase of renovations to its campus in North Spokane’s Indian Trail neighborhood and plans to reevaluate future phases of work in the coming years.
Current renovations and expansions include renovating approximately 12,000 square feet of the 60,000 square foot facility at 3754 W. Indian Trail Road and adding approximately 1,500 square feet to the north side of the building.
Construction on the addition to house the wellness organization’s outpatient services will begin in late 2022, and the entire first phase of improvements was originally scheduled to be completed last fall. However, Excelsior President and CEO Andrew Hill said the project schedule was pushed back because the organization decided to invest more in its construction plans on the 35-acre campus. Now, he said he expects the first phase to be completed by the end of this summer.
In addition, the cost of the first phase of work has increased from an original $7 million to $8 million, he said. The field work was also slightly increased from his original $1.2 million.
But Hill points out that changes in the building, which was built in 1959, are already changing the surgical and patient experience.
“It completely changed what it felt like to be in that space,” he says. “This building has a lot of interesting features that allow us to accommodate people, no matter their needs.”
The Spokane office of Swinnerton Builders was the general contractor on the project, which was designed by Spokane’s Bernardo Wills. McKinstry Co.’s Spokane office handles mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire contracting services, and his DCI Engineers, which also has a Spokane office,He is a structural engineer.
Future phases of work will include interior upgrades and refurbishment of the building’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. However, Hill says the organization is now reevaluating the scope and schedule of these projects because of rising costs.
