Deepika Padukone’s pregnancy has been garnering attention for both good and bad reasons, but it seems the actress isn’t letting anything get in the way of her self-care. Recently, she posted a picture of herself doing the ‘Viparita Karlani’ yoga pose with a lengthy caption about why self-care is important. She also spoke about how Viparita Karlani, also known as ‘Legs Up The Wall’ pose, can help pregnant women. According to her, pregnant women can try this asana with a cushion under their hips for support, which can provide the following benefits:
1) Relieves muscle and joint pain, and swelling in the ankles and feet
2) Reduce pressure on your lower back, relieving feelings of heaviness and fatigue in your legs and lower back.
3) Reduces water retention
4) Reduces swelling and discomfort in your ankles and feet
Earlier this month, Deepika’s yoga instructor Anshuka Parwani also shared the benefits of Viparita Karani on her page. She said that Viparita Karani has a relaxing effect and also improves the quality of sleep. Some of the benefits of this asana include calming the nervous system, increasing blood circulation in the heart and legs, relieving muscle tension in the lower back and hamstrings, reducing swelling in the legs and aiding digestion, Anshuka said. She also said that practicing this asana before bedtime helps prepare the body for a restful night’s sleep.
