The first wave of Copilot+ PCs finally arrived last week, ushering in an exciting new era of AI-powered laptops, including the sleek Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x, which aims to take on Apple’s MacBook Air M3.
The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x is one of the first Copilot+ PCs, a collection of Windows laptops that run Microsoft’s Copilot AI platform. It uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X chipset to enable a range of on-device AI capabilities. The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x is equipped with the lowest-end version of the Snapdragon X Elite chip, the Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78-100.
The lab test team Laptop Magazine has been thoroughly testing the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x, and the results are already interesting: the Yoga Slim 7x dominates the Geekbench 6 benchmark, handily beating Apple’s M3 MacBook, but what about battery life?
Here are the initial battery test results for the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x, and how it compares to competitors from Apple and HP.
Lenovo Yoga Slim’s battery life is 7x longer than Apple and HP
Battery life is one of the most important tests, as it is a deciding factor when choosing a new laptop. Laptop Magazine In our review process, the MacBook is often the front-runner when it comes to battery life, but some of the new Copilot+ PCs could dethrone Apple in that department.
The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x delivered an impressive 14 hours and 14 minutes of battery life in our initial tests, well above our premium laptop average of 10 hours and 7 minutes, and more than enough to get you through a full day.
But while the Yoga Slim 7x’s initial battery life test results are impressive, they don’t quite beat out the top competitors: The MacBook Air M3 lasted an hour longer (15:13), and another new Copilot+ PC, the HP EliteBook Ultra, lasted a whopping 16 hours.
of course, Laptop Magazine We’re still testing the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x, so it’s possible that the average battery life will be even longer in our final review. Even if that doesn’t happen, there’s one important reason why it’s still our top choice among these three laptops.
Laptop | Battery Life (hours and minutes) |
---|---|
Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x | 14:14 |
MacBook Air M3 (13-inch) | 15:13 |
HP EliteBook Ultra | 16:01 |
Why the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x is still a top contender
The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x fell a few hours behind the HP EliteBook Ultra and MacBook Air M3, at least in our initial battery-life tests, but there’s one important reason not to give up just yet.
The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x has one feature its biggest rivals don’t have: an OLED display. OLED displays are sharper and brighter than LCD displays, making everything from web pages to movies and games look great, and they’re usually more energy efficient too.
The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x’s OLED display performed well in our tests, covering an impressive 155% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and achieving an average brightness of 464 nits. That’s nearly double the MacBook Air M3’s DCI-P3 color gamut score and within 10 nits of the MacBook’s average display brightness.
A display like the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x’s OLED panel offers enough of a benefit to justify the loss of an hour or two of battery life, especially if you watch a lot of shows and movies on your laptop.
Laptop | DCI-P3 color gamut | Average Luminance |
---|---|---|
Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x | 155% | 464 knits |
MacBook Air M3 (13-inch) | 77.8% | 476 knits |
