Retired photographer and drummer Bruce Eikenberry can’t say enough about the team at Penrose and Associates Physical Therapy in Lacey. “From the moment you walk in the door, they’re a great group of people,” he says. “They’re knowledgeable about their jobs and are very down-to-earth, kind people. They know their stuff.”

Penrose offers treatment to improve the effects of spinal stenosis
Eikenberry’s doctor referred him to physical therapy to treat spinal stenosis, a condition in which the spinal cord and nerves are compressed when the spine is too small. Spinal stenosis can restrict movement and cause pain in many parts of the body, including the lower back and neck. “I found Penrose to be very good, very thorough, very focused,” Eikenberry said of the treatment he has received for his condition. “They monitor your form (during the exercise), so it’s accurate.”
Eikenberry said she has seen other physical therapists in the past and is impressed with the care she receives at Penrose. Eikenberry’s Penrose team included physical therapists Mary Hale and Nicole Marchioli. “Both of my physical therapists have been working with me and talking with me about my situation,” Eikenberry says. “They’re really happy with my progress. When they measure my range of motion, something improves every time they measure it.”

Penrose Physical Therapy Returns Eikenberry to His Favorite Activities and Passions
Mr. Eikenberry is a retired state employee. His passions include photographing fine art and landscapes. Additionally, he loves playing the drums. However, his spinal stenosis made it difficult for him to stand with a tripod for photography or keep his arms raised while playing the drums. Penrose staff immediately looked at how physical therapy could improve his life.
“They figured it out really quickly,” he says of the staff’s understanding of his condition, treatment strategy and his goals. “They really care and are focused. They relate to your passions in life.”
Although he has had to cut back on some of his favorite activities due to his illness, Penrose is getting back to the pastimes he enjoys. “Recently he started to get back into shape again,” he says of his drumming. This is just one example of the results of physical therapy over the past few months at Penrose.
