Balatro, a game I’ve poured over 100 hours into and shows no signs of slowing down, is finally being released as a physical edition.
The announcement was made during today’s Giant Bomb at Nite live show, with special guest Wout van Halderen (PR Manager at Balatro’s publisher Playstack) breaking the news alongside Jeff Grubb.
A physical “Special Edition” version of the game will come with booster packs of cards that actually appeared in the game, presumably including Joker/Tarot/Celestial Bodies cards, and will be available for PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox, with pre-orders opening “soon.” Wout was asked on the stream if the cards included would be randomized to increase the level of RNG, but the team stressed that they’ve chosen a specific collection of cards with the same cards in each box to ensure it’s fair for everyone who picks it up, and to highlight their absolute favorites.
You can watch the announcement two hours later on VOD below.
In my review, I gave Balatro a 9.5/10 and said, “Balatro is one of those deceptively enticing ideas that becomes more and more engrossing the more you try to unravel its secrets and intricacies. You can play the same game multiple times and still experience entirely new possibilities each time, while providing just enough new ideas and just the right amount of entrancing feedback to keep you thinking ‘just one more game’ into the morning.”
It has been announced that the game will also be released on mobile in the future.
