COLUMBIA, South Carolina (WOLO) – An arrest warrant has been issued for a man accused of physically abusing his 3-year-old daughter after he failed to appear for court, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Nathan Ginter, 43, was convicted by a Richland County jury on Wednesday, June 12, after a three-day trial.
Ginter was convicted of four counts of misconduct against a child for chronic physical abuse of his 3-year-old daughter.
When the defendant failed to appear for trial, an arrest warrant was issued, and as a result, the judgment was withheld by the court until the defendant was arrested on the warrant, according to the Fifth Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
Ginter is accused of abusing his daughter as a form of punishment between January 2022 and March 2022, which escalated to torture.
Investigators said the man began whipping the girl with a bamboo stick, leaving bruises on her body.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the torture became more severe over time, initially in the form of waterboarding, with cold baths and showers.
He is also accused of using a stun gun on her buttocks over a period of several weeks, causing second-degree burns.
Authorities said the whole incident took place in front of the child’s 9-year-old sister, who was called to testify about the abuse the child had to endure.
The abuse was reported by the victim’s grandfather after he noticed burns on the child’s buttocks, with the help of his daughter, who is the child’s aunt.
During the investigation, a digital forensic examination extracted information from the mobile phones of the child’s mother and the defendant, uncovering numerous text messages and images documenting the abuse over a three-month period.
Authorities said there was also video evidence of the waterboarding incident.
