Celebrating Yoga in North Attleboro
Last Saturday morning, dozens of local and out-of-state residents gathered at North Attleboro High School’s renovated athletic field for a community yoga and meditation event celebrating International Yoga Day. There were beginner classes, meditation sessions, and a short discussion on the benefits of yoga and meditation with a certified instructor. The event was sponsored by nonprofit organization Breathing Secrets of North Attleboro. “We’ve had people who have always wanted to try yoga and meditation, but are afraid to try because they don’t know the names of the poses, the breathing techniques, or how to do them. We designed this event for beginners,” said Neema Patel, president of Breathing Secrets. “The organization hopes to continue hosting events like this in the future to foster a healthier, more mindful community.”
Go geocaching in Attleboro this Saturday
The Southeastern Massachusetts Association of Geocatchers and the Attleboro Federation of Geocatchers will be hosting an event in Highland Park on Saturday. Geocaching involves hiding and finding small containers using only GPS coordinates. The event is being called a “mega” event with at least 500 participants, the first in Massachusetts since 2019 and the first outside of the Sturbridge area. It is also the first event to be held in a New England city the size of Attleboro, according to organizers. The event will begin with warm-up activities at 9:30 a.m., with the main event running from mid-afternoon through early evening.
NAHS Alumni Sing National Anthem at Fenway
Brannigan Smith, a 2023 graduate of North Attleboro High School, sang the National Anthem at a Red Sox game at Fenway Park. Smith represented the university at UMass Amherst Day. He is a sophomore at the school, studying the rare combination of electrical engineering and classical vocal performance. Smith was selected by the UMass Amherst Alumni Association to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner.” He hopes to also sing at the school’s athletic events.
